This week, Room 18 have been exploring our school value of RESPECT. This value has been a building block of our class treaty. We have enjoyed making role-plays about giving and showing respect, and today, enjoyed playing a respect game with each other. Please watch Cindy and Kruthen's video about respect.

    Wow! I didn't know how respect could be so important. What I found interesting was that if you show respect, in return you get respect.

Inventing Tenting - Design Process

For Maths today, Room 18 have been building paper tents from the Figure It Out activity called, Inventing Tenting.  Room 18 were able to work either alone, with a partner or in a small group to create their tent.  This was super enjoyable, and was great to see different skills and strategies being used. Some chose to meticulously plan, some worked with paper folding and some got straight into cutting and taping.  One question which arose was, how do you create a cone shape? Alucious was able to work out how to make a cone! In Room 18 we would love to hear your comments and questions about our learning.  Room 18 will also be adding comments about how they made their tent. Chapter Chat Novel - The Explorer

Room 18 are enthralled in our Chapter Chat book -  The Explorer  by Katherine Rundell.  It is about 4 children whose plane crashes into the remote Amazon jungle.  Fred, Lila, Con and Max are all learning to survive.  Every week, we have activities to complete related to our novel.  This week, one of the tasks was to create a fishing spear and work out the best way to spear a fish.  Room 18 are pretty chuffed with their spears. In Room 18, we have been reading about the history of telescopes. Did you know that a telescope was originally a toy? It wasn't until Galilei Galileo decided to make a real one!. We made a type of telescope, called a kaleidoscope, which uses the reflective powers of light and mirrors to create a visual feast for the eyes. If you visit individual blogs (Kruthen & Semith) they have added to the experience by adding some house music.
