Chapter Chat Novel - The Explorer

Image
Room 18 are enthralled in our Chapter Chat book -  The Explorer  by Katherine Rundell.  It is about 4 children whose plane crashes into the remote Amazon jungle.  Fred, Lila, Con and Max are all learning to survive.  Every week, we have activities to complete related to our novel.  This week, one of the tasks was to create a fishing spear and work out the best way to spear a fish.  Room 18 are pretty chuffed with their spears. In what ways can you spear a fish?

Etching - Art inspired by David Teata (NZ Artist)

Image
In Room 18 this week, we have been studying the work of New Zealand Artist, David Teata.  He uses his Cook Island heritage to inspire his pacific themed art, which represents the people, ocean and natural surrounds of the pacific region. He etches his artwork, which is very similar to scratch-art.  Room 18 have been planning their deliberate acts of art by planning and recrafting  ideas. In the photos, we have used bamboo sticks and whiteboard markers  for our practise but you will have to wait and see what our final work will look like at the Art Exhibition in Week 10.  Ka kite for now.

For an entire 5 weeks, Miss Kemp has been a part of our Room 18 Whanau. Room 18 have loved their time with her and have enjoyed learning too.  Today on Crazy Hair Day, Miss Kemp surprised us with a treat bags filled with goodies.  Ella and Elyse also made Miss Kemp a striking leaving card inspired by Japanese notan art.  To farewell Miss Kemp and to celebrate crazy hair day, we took a class photo - spot the crazy hair, and Miss Kemp!
